In an interview with CBS News, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that in March, US President Donald Trump proposed an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin was reported to have accepted this proposal, but under certain conditions.

"A few weeks ago, President Putin immediately supported President Trump's proposal to establish a 30-day ceasefire, provided that we do not repeat the mistakes of the last ten years, when agreements were signed and Ukraine violated them with the support and encouragement of Biden's administration and European countries,” said Mr. Lavrov, mentioning the Minsk agreements and Istanbul talks.

Continuing his response to CBS News, Mr. Lavrov reiterated that Mr. Putin would indeed have accepted a ceasefire, but the Foreign Minister acknowledged that Russia had set conditions. One of these conditions was stopping arms supplies to Ukraine and ensuring that Ukrainian armed forces would not use this period to reinforce their position.

Thus, President Putin stated: "Ceasefire, yes, but we want guarantees that the ceasefire will not be used again to strengthen the Ukrainian army and that arms deliveries must cease."
