The European Union is preparing a "plan B" to maintain economic sanctions against Russia if the United States abandons peace negotiations on Ukraine and moves closer to Moscow.

This was stated by the EU's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Kaja Kallas, in The Guardian.

"We see signs that they (the United States) are considering leaving Ukraine and not trying to reach an agreement with the Russians because it's difficult," said Ms. Kallas.

According to her, there is a "plan B" to maintain economic pressure on Russia if Hungary blocks the extension of the EU's economic sanctions in July.

Ms. Kallas emphasized that Brussels remained determined to preserve the unity of all EU member states.

"There's also a "plan B", but we must work on "plan A", because otherwise you focus on plan B and that's what will happen," she added.

In Europe, there's growing concern, according to the Financial Times, that Mr. Trump may soon withdraw from peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, citing the lack of significant progress as justification.
