Kim Jong un unveils new destroyer equipped with ‘most powerful weapons’

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has unveiled a new warship reportedly capable of launching ballistic missiles armed with nuclear warheads, marking what he called a major step forward in expanding the country’s military capabilities.

Kim described the destroyer as a necessary response to what he called ongoing threats from the United States and its regional allies.

“We will respond decisively to this geopolitical crisis and ongoing developments,” he said, as quoted by North Korea’s state media outlet KCNA.

The newly unveiled destroyer, weighing 5,000 tons, is described as the first in a new class of heavily armed vessels. According to Jo Chun Ryong, secretary of the Workers' Party, the ship is equipped with "the most powerful weapons" and was built in approximately 400 days.

Kim added that the next major step in the country’s military program would be the construction of a nuclear-powered submarine.
