Kim Jong-un watched with embarrassment new warship being damaged

North Korea has reported that its second warship was damaged during a failed launch, which occurred in full view of leader Kim Jong-un.

According to the state-run news agency KCNA, a "serious accident" took place during the launch of a 5,000-ton destroyer at the Chongjin's Hambuk shipyard, attributing the incident to "operational negligence."

North Korea’s navy is largely composed of aging vessels, prompting Kim to push for the development of modern and more effective warships. At the same time, Pyongyang continues to expand its nuclear warhead arsenal.

KCNA reported that Kim gave a "stern assessment", stating the incident was "a serious accident and criminal act caused by sheer carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empiricism, which should never occur and could not be tolerated."

The warship reportedly lost its balance and sustained damage to its lower hull, according to the official outlet.

South Korean experts believe that Pyongyang may have intentionally disclosed the mishap to emphasize the pace of its military advancement, despite setbacks.
