No doubt: Germany is preparing for war

Germany fears a Russian attack before 2029 and is building up its ammunition stocks, developing its electronic warfare capabilities, and establishing a stronger framework for both offensive and defensive air operations.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has pledged to transform the Bundeswehr into the most powerful army in Europe. He has committed to providing the armed forces with all necessary financial resources to "become the most powerful army in Europe".

In this spirit, the head of German defence, General Carsten Breuer, has issued a directive calling for the complete rearmament of the Bundeswehr with modern weapons and equipment by 2029. According to Reuters, the directive highlights the urgent need to improve Germany's defensive and offensive capabilities due to the threat of a possible Russian attack on NATO territory at present.

The new measures would include increasing ammunition stocks, developing electronic warfare capabilities, and establishing a stronger framework for offensive and defensive operations in airspace. NATO has asked Germany to strengthen its air defence systems, whether through long-range platforms such as the Patriot or short-range systems.
