Newly appointed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to visit Paris today before heading to London on Monday, aiming to strengthen ties with Europe while navigating an escalating trade dispute with Donald Trump.
During his inaugural speech, Carney emphasized that Canada was built by the French, the English, and Indigenous peoples, making it fundamentally different from its American neighbor.
A government official stated that the trip is intended to reinforce relationships with France and the UK.
Carney will first travel to Paris to meet French President Emmanuel Macron, before flying to London for discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The talks will focus on trade partnerships and joint strategies to counter Washington’s threats of increased tariffs.
While in London, Carney will also meet King Charles III as part of his diplomatic visit.
