NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned that Russia could be prepared to launch a military attack by 2030, urging member states to increase defense spending and strengthen collective readiness.
Speaking at Chatham House in London, the former Dutch Prime Minister emphasized that the traditional division between "East" and "West" no longer applies, saying: "There is no longer East or West. There is just NATO."
"Russia is rebuilding its military forces with Chinese technology and is producing weapons at a faster pace than expected. In terms of ammunition alone, Russia now produces in three months what all of NATO produces in a year. They could be ready to use military force against NATO within five years," he warned.
Rutte also highlighted the growing threat posed by next-generation Russian missiles, many of which are hypersonic and capable of reaching European capitals in mere minutes.
He issued a stark warning about the devastating consequences of any attack on NATO soil: "We are deadly serious: if anyone tries to attack us, the consequences would be devastating—whether it’s Russia or anyone else. This isn’t just about money and weapons. It’s about mindset. We understand what’s at stake, and those thinking of acting against us need to understand it too."
