A mass shooting occurred Monday evening in Manhattan on Park Avenue in an office building housing major companies such as the financial firm Blackstone, the NFL (American football league) and the auditing firm KPMG.

The attack began when a 27-year-old man, identified as Shane Devon Tamura, from Las Vegas, arrived at the building armed with an AR-15 rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest. He opened fire in the building's lobby, killing a New York City police officer providing security and three other people, two men and a woman. At least one other person was seriously injured. After shooting in the lobby and progressing to the 33rd floor, Tamura shot another victim before shooting himself.

Authorities say Tamura acted alone and are investigating his motives, as he traveled across the country from Nevada to New York before the attack. At this time, his motive for the shooting is unknown.

The incident follows several high-profile mass shootings in corporate offices in recent years, raising ongoing concerns about security and gun violence in major metropolitan areas across the United States.
