The US' failure in peace negotiations

The US Vice President JD Vance said on Wednesday that Russia "is asking for too much" to end the war in Ukraine.

"It's probably impossible for the United States to play a mediating role in the conflict, as expected, there's a large difference between the Russian and Ukrainian positions (...) I wouldn't say that the Russians aren't interested in solving this issue (...) We think they're asking too much," Mr. Vance said at a forum organised by the Munich Security Conference in Washington.

Mr. Vance reaffirmed that it was "very important" for the parties to begin a dialogue and "move beyond the 30-day ceasefire obsession" that Russia isn't willing to accept.

"More focus needs to be placed on what the long-term agreement looks like, and we have been trying to make steady progress" he said, according to USA Today.

He also warned that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, doesn't rule out withdrawing from the negotiations if the situation continues to stagnate.

Vance also toned down his stance towards European countries compared to his previous participation in this forum held on February 14 in the German city and assured that the United States and Europe "are on the same team".
