With the arrival of Donald Trump in power, and the risk of seeing U.S. support weaken, Kyiv has sought to achieve military autonomy.

Currently reliant on American ATACMS missiles (which haven't been delivered since early March), and French SCALP and British Storm Shadow missiles, Ukraine is working with the means it has to improve its own Trembita missiles.

The Trembita missiles have the advantage of not costing much (10,000 dollars each compared to 1 million dollars for an ATACMS), they're lightweight and have a short range. The aim here would be to increase their range, from 145 kilometres to 650. All this, in order to reach Moscow.

These missiles, even when improved, can never compete with SCALP, Storm Shadow, or ATACMS, but can be used against Russian industrial sites.

As reported by the media L'Indépendant, the Ukrainian armed forces hope to be able to use the new Trembita within a year.
