Russian President Vladimir Putin is indeed open to peace with Ukraine, but it will not happen as quickly as the United States would like. This is according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday.

The swift progress that the American president would like to see is, according to Peskov, difficult to achieve because the conflict is so complex.

The Kremlin spokesperson also emphasises that Moscow must achieve its stated goals in Ukraine, but also that Russia is willing to negotiate directly with Kiev about ending the war. Consequently, according to Peskov, it seems that Putin cannot make any concessions at all.

The Kremlin spokesperson further underscores that a peace agreement must be reached with Ukraine and not with the US. However, the Kremlin is thankful to Trump for his efforts to end the war, it is stated.
