But Sylvester Stallone is not involved
One of American’s most iconic action movie heroes – John Rambo – might be set to return to the big screen. The production company behind several modern action franchises such as The Expendables is currently setting up a Rambo prequel film that would reveal the back story behind the former Vietnam soldier.
Rambo was famously played by Sylvester Stallone and went on to become one of the most successful movie franchises, earning more than $800 million worldwide. The movie is apparently in the early stages of casting, with plans to shoot in Thailand. Stallone is not said to be involved at this stage. Although it might be technically possible to make him seem younger, this would probably be a very expensive option. So a young actor is probably more appropriate. But which one?
One thing that is certain is that Finnish director Jalmari Helander is involved. Helander made a mark for himself with the 2023 revenge thriller “Sisu” about a solitary prospector getting his bounty back from Nazi soldiers in a bleak landscape.
The director told the trade magazine Deadline, “I have been the biggest fan of Rambo since the age of 11. It is so surreal to be in a situation where I can actually make my own Rambo movie. The chain of events that got me here makes, in a fantastic way, my whole childhood make sense. I can’t wait to bring the greatest action hero back to the big screen where he belongs.”
