Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reportedly selected three potential successors in the event of his death, as tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv continue to escalate.

According to The New York Times, which cited unnamed Iranian officials, Khamenei has also quietly designated replacements for key military commanders in case of sudden fatalities within the top ranks.

While the identities of the possible successors were not disclosed, the report emphasizes how swiftly and meticulously the Supreme Leader has moved to secure continuity of power.

The New York Times notes that despite the high-stress environment, Khamenei has managed to maintain internal stability, with no signs of dissent or mutiny detected among the senior leadership.

Since June 13, the Supreme Leader is said to have taken refuge in a secure bunker, communicating only through a trusted advisor with his most loyal commanders. All electronic communications from his location have reportedly been cut off.

Normally, the selection of a new Supreme Leader is a process that takes several months, but the heightened geopolitical tensions have prompted unprecedented measures and accelerated decision-making.
