Iran will have ‘no choice’ but to resort to nuclear weapons if attacked by the US

Iran may have no choice but to seek nuclear weapons if the country is attacked by the United States, a top Iranian official has warned.

This statement comes after Donald Trump threatened to "bomb" Iran if it refuses to negotiate a new nuclear deal.

Tensions between the two nations have escalated in recent weeks, with the U.S. president warning of possible military action to pressure Tehran into talks.

Ali Larijani, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, told state television that Iran is not currently pursuing nuclear weapons, but would be forced to do so if threats persist.

"We are not moving towards (nuclear) weapons, but if you do something wrong in the Iranian nuclear issue, you will force Iran to move towards that because it has to defend itself," Larijani said on TV.

While Iran refuses to negotiate directly with the U.S., it remains open to discussions through an intermediary.
