Iran refuses US nuclear proposal in a blow to Trump

Iran is expected to reject a U.S. proposal aimed at resolving a decades-long dispute, an Iranian diplomat told Reuters on Monday.

According to the diplomat, Washington has failed to meet Tehran’s expectations, and the issue of uranium enrichment remains unaddressed.

“Iran is drafting a negative response to the U.S. proposal, which could be interpreted as a rejection of the U.S. offer,” said the senior diplomat, who is close to Iran’s negotiating team.

The American proposal was delivered over the weekend by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi during a brief visit to Tehran.

Despite five rounds of talks between U.S. and Iranian diplomats, the deadlock persists. President Donald Trump has reportedly been pressuring for a quick deal, warning of potential military action if progress is not made soon.

One of the main sticking points remains Iran’s uranium enrichment program. While the United States insists that Iran must abandon enrichment activities, Tehran maintains that its program is intended for peaceful, civilian purposes.

“In this proposal, the U.S. stance on enrichment on Iranian soil remains unchanged, and there is no clear explanation regarding the lifting of sanctions,” the diplomat added.
