Iran bemoans ‘racist’ travel ban imposed by Trump

Iran has sharply condemned the new travel ban imposed by the Trump administration, calling it “racist” and a clear sign of hostility toward Iranians and Muslims.

Earlier this week, Donald Trump signed an executive order barring entry to nationals from 19 countries, many of which are located in Africa and the Middle East. The measure is set to take effect this Monday, and echoes Trump’s controversial decision during his first term to ban citizens from several Muslim-majority countries.

Alireza Hashemi-Raja, head of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' department for Iranians abroad, said the move reflects “the dominance of a supremacist and racist mentality among American policymakers.”

“This measure indicates the deep hostility of American decision-makers towards the Iranian and Muslim people,” he added.

The ban comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran, particularly over disagreements surrounding the terms of a renewed nuclear deal.
