India has taken a series of retaliatory measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the water-sharing agreement and a ban on Pakistani citizens entering the country, following a deadly attack in the Kashmir region that left 26 people dead.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh stated that those responsible for the attack would face a "swift response" from India.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said during a press briefing that links between the two countries had emerged in the investigation, prompting immediate action.

Foreign Minister Vikram Misri announced that the Indus Waters Treaty—an agreement governing water sharing between the two nations—has been suspended "until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism."

On Tuesday, 26 tourists were killed in northern India near the border with Pakistan. The attackers remain at large.
