It's no longer in doubt: climate change is wreaking havoc in many regions across the world. Natural disasters are multiplying: wildfires, intense droughts, torrential rains... The consequences for our planet are devastating.
And, according to a recent study published in the scientific journal Géophysique pure et appliquée, “there's a 100% risk that a violent tsunami will ravage the coasts of certain European countries in the coming years,” reports media outlet Demotivateur. An unprecedented wave could impact the entire Mediterranean region.
100% risk
“Over the next 30 years,” researchers (working for the Governmental Ocean Commission) estimate that there is a 100% risk that a violent tsunami will strike European coastlines, notably the Alboran Sea—“an area with significant seismic activity”—as well as the coasts of Valencia and the Balearic Islands.
More tsunami warnings
The Governmental Ocean Commission is sounding the alarm. According to them, it's urgent for Europe to protect itself from these disasters by organising tsunami alert systems. Extremely destructive, tsunamis represent a real threat to humanity.
