The trend comes from the United States and emerged in popular culture. It then spread widely with the Kylie Jenner phenomenon. The star influencer and younger sister of Kim Kardashian has, in recent years, made the plump lips trend mainstream.

Glamorous, voluptuous lips are now firmly part of the beauty landscape. Many women want to embrace this look without resorting to cosmetic surgery. Procedures such as lip injections can be expensive and sometimes pose health risks.

To avoid surgery, here are a few simple and effective steps to naturally plump your lips:

Exfoliation

This first step is very important in any lip care routine, and forms the starting point for achieving "glamorous lips". Use an exfoliator to remove any dry skin from your lips. The most natural method is to mix a little olive oil with some sugar granules and gently massage the mixture onto your lips in a circular motion. If you don't have these ingredients to hand, simply use your toothbrush; its bristles, when rinsed in hot water, will do the job perfectly well.

Moisturising

This step is essential after exfoliation. Restore colour to your lips and give them some extra softness by applying a balm, a plant oil, or a lip mask for a few minutes to allow absorption. These moisturising products will leave your lips smoother and well nourished.

A little extra tip

To bring life to your lips, add a few drops of peppermint and/or cinnamon essential oil to your moisturising balm. These are natural irritants that will gently make your lips tingle and appear fuller, without any pain.

Make-up

Make-up is the finishing touch for that luscious, plump lips effect, enhancing the results in several ways. You can use a contouring technique, shading around the mouth to make it stand out. You could also choose a lip pencil in a slightly darker shade (but not too dark) to redefine the lips or slightly overline them. Finally, apply a nude or pink lipstick to the centre of your lips. Playing with light and shadow will create the illusion of naturally plump and fresh lips. Complete the look by dabbing a little highlighter on your cupid’s bow and adding a touch of gloss.

Your dream lips await!
