Have you seen them in various shops already? The chocolate Easter eggs! Not only are they on the shelves for sale, but they are also in bowls 'up for grabs' at many store checkouts. Each year, new cheerful colours and flavours are added. Undoubtedly you are keen to try all the flavours, because, let's admit it, it's incredibly hard for chocolate lovers to resist them. But do you know how many calories are in an Easter egg?
In white and milk chocolate Easter eggs, there are 45 calories, in dark chocolate eggs 40, in liqueur eggs 37 calories and eggs with nut paste contain about 52 calories each.
This is roughly equivalent to the amount in an apple, a rice cake, a thin cracker, or an ice lolly. There's precisely 1 sugar cube worth of sugar in each.
Did you know we eat an average of about 47 Easter eggs a year?
But do you know how long you need to move to burn off those calories?
Well, to burn the calories of one egg, you need to approximately:
- walk for 10 minutes
- cycle for 8 minutes
- run for 5 minutes
- swim gently for 8 minutes
- sit at a desk for 25 minutes
- stand for 20 minutes
So, quickly take that walk during your lunch break, and you'll have burned off the calories from that Easter egg you couldn't resist during your coffee break. What else can you do? Cycle to work, take the stairs more often… And continue enjoying Easter eggs now and then, without guilt!
