Herbiet and Thomas get Belgian crowd in party mood

Chloé Herbiet and Juliette Thomas delivered the highlight for Belgian fans at the European road athletics championship in Leuven on Saturday.

They crowned themselves, somewhat surprisingly, as European champion and vice-champion after a very strong race. The determination of Herbiet will long remain in the memories of the many fans present under a radiant sun. She shed all her competitors and secured gold for Belgium in the half marathon. Juliette Thomas sped over the finish line a mere fourteen seconds later to take a well-deserved silver medal. Italian Sara Nestola had to settle for bronze. The Belgian women also won the team classification.
