Since 1997, or for 28 years, this Frenchman was no longer permitted to drive his vehicle. The reason? His licence was no longer valid.

It all began with a simple routine check in the Rhône, on a road in Tarare, a small French town located about 50 kilometres from Lyon (France). The gendarmes of a motorised patrol stopped the driver and carried out an inspection of the vehicle, which had a technical inspection fault. First offence. The law enforcement then checked other elements, particularly concerning the motorist.

Driving under the influence

“First of all, a database check revealed that the vehicle was not insured. But then came the moment to check the validity of the driving licence. And then: surprise!” stated the Tarare Gendarmerie. The driver's licence, which had not been valid since 1997, had been revoked for driving under the influence, noted the media outlet Demotivateur. Second offence. The man never renewed his licence and continued to drive, in complete illegality.

“But he's still given a medal… but like his licence, it's symbolic and without legal value. Despite his feat, this driver will have to face the facts before the court,” the gendarmerie humorously noted, then specified in a Facebook post.
