The Kremlin has warned Russians not to be influenced by what the administration of US President Donald Trump is doing regarding Ukraine, even if his actions sometimes seem hopeful for Moscow.

"Don't rush to put rose-tinted glasses on," said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, to an audience at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow on Tuesday.

"We must always hope for the best but prepare for the worst. And we must always be ready to defend our country."

The Kremlin expects the United States to inform it about the talks in Jeddah between American and Ukrainian delegations.

Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of President Donald Trump, plans to visit Moscow this week to meet President Vladimir Putin in person.
