Following his death, Pope Francis' colossal fortune is revealed

A British media outlet, shortly after the death of the pontiff, has just revealed his salary and personal fortune. And here's what Jorge Mario Bergoglio did with it.

He passed away at the age of 88 on 21 April at 7:35am in the Vatican. Pope Francis is reported to have died from a stroke, which led to a coma and cardiocirculatory failure. And while Catholics around the world mourn his passing, the first revelations about his fortune are making headlines in the press.

Fully dedicated to the Church

According to the British media The Mirror, the salary of the bishop of the diocese of Rome, since his election in 2013, was 385,000 dollars per year (equivalent to 334,821 euros). As specified by The Mirror, as a Jesuit, Pope Francis had taken a vow of poverty, obedience to Christ, and chastity. Consequently, he refused this remuneration. Today, the sum can be donated to the Church, a foundation, or a family member.

Moreover, The Mirror states that the net worth of Jorge Mario Bergoglio was estimated at 16 million dollars at the time of his death. Clothes, an apartment, and five cars: these were the main assets owned by the pope.
