In a serious traffic accident on the Turanjska bypass in Karlovac, Croatia, two people were killed on Friday evening at around 20:15, including former Croatian football international Nikola Pokrivač. Three people were taken to hospital. The second deceased was a Slovenian citizen originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He caused the accident.

The accident was caused by an absurd overtaking manoeuvre by the 42-year-old Slovenian. He crossed a continuous white line and attempted to overtake several cars at high speed. He collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. In that car were four players from the local football club returning from training. The driver of that vehicle was Nikola Pokrivač, who played for Varteks, Dinamo Zagreb, Monaco, Red Bull Salzburg, and Rijeka during his career. He was killed instantly when the Slovenian crashed head-on into him with his Audi. The police reported this to Danas.hr. A 35-year-old and a 31-year-old Croatian were seriously injured, as well as a 27-year-old passenger.
