The Comité P, an independent committee that supervises the police services, is investigating exactly what happened and how police acted during the tragic chase that took place on Monday evening in Brussels. An 11-year-old boy on an electric scooter lost his life during a police pursuit.

More information is gradually coming to light. It appears the driver of the electric scooter was only 11 years old, although in Belgium the minimum age for operating such a vehicle is 16. He is also reported to have had a passenger on the electric scooter. These may have been the reasons why police initiated the chase, intending to warn the children about their unsafe violations.

The police pursued the boy on the electric scooter from Koekelberg, and a police vehicle eventually struck him in Elisabeth Park near Landsroemlaan in Ganshoren. An ambulance and a MUG team were at the scene within four minutes. The child was taken to hospital but died there from his injuries.

The prosecutor's office and the Comité P are continuing to investigate this particularly tragic incident.
