The Swedish government has just unveiled a large-scale rearmament plan. Military aid to Ukraine will also be increased, reports Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.

According to Mr Kristersson, Sweden's defence spending already exceeds the 2% of GDP target set by NATO, but this is not enough. That is why the country plans to increase its defence spending to 3.5% of GDP by 2030.

"Today, we presented an ambitious plan to increase Sweden's defence spending to around 3.5% of GDP by 2030. This plan involves an investment financed by a loan of around 300 billion Swedish kronor (around 28 billion euros)," said the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, the Swedish government plans to increase the economic framework for military support to Ukraine; Sweden had already presented this rearmament plan as part of the EU's efforts to strengthen defence capabilities. Recently, the European Commission presented a white paper on rearmament. EU countries are also seeking to approve a defence investment plan proposed by EU President Ursula von der Leyen.
