If Moscow continues to refuse any ceasefire in Ukraine, Europeans will not hesitate to impose a series of new sanctions.
On May 1st, the head of French diplomacy Jean-Noël Barrot announced to AFP that Europe was preparing a wave of sanctions against Russia, in case of Moscow's continued refusal of a ceasefire. The Europeans wish to coordinate these sanctions with the United States.
Washington seeks to toughen its stance
"We, Europeans, are going to support this American initiative with a 17th package of sanctions and I committed yesterday (Wednesday) to Lindsey Graham that we would attempt to coordinate, both in substance and timing, these two sanction packages," declared the French minister, referring to the Republican senator who had proposed toughening American sanctions against Moscow, reported the media L’Indépendant.
