Trump issues two-week ultimatum to Putin

Donald Trump has given Vladimir Putin a two-week ultimatum to make meaningful progress in peace negotiations, warning that failure to do so will result in new sanctions targeting the Russian economy.

Despite a recent phone call between the two leaders, there has been no tangible progress in ending the war, aside from a prisoner exchange between the warring nations. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the U.S. President acknowledged uncertainty about Putin’s true intentions.

“We’ll find out whether or not he’s tapping us along or not, and if he is, we’ll respond a little bit differently—but it will take about a week and a half to two weeks,” Trump said.

He added: “I can say this: I’m very disappointed at what happened a couple of nights now, where people were killed, in the middle of what you would call a negotiation.”

In recent weeks, Russia has ramped up its military offensive, launching nearly 300 drones in its latest wave of attacks across Ukraine.

Although Trump has previously maintained a cordial relationship with Putin, he recently called the Russian president "crazy" following an unprecedented assault.
