Trump throws in the towel

Donald Trump has decided to step back from peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, informing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders of his decision.

The U.S. President—who had initially vowed to end the war within 24 hours—has now abandoned the effort after more than 100 days in office. Despite early optimism, Trump reportedly grew disillusioned due to the lack of progress between the two warring nations.

Earlier this week, the billionaire leader held a two-hour phone call with Vladimir Putin, which, though described as “meaningful,” did not lead to any concrete outcomes.

According to the New York Times, Trump told Zelenskyy and allied leaders that future peace negotiations would now have to take place directly between Kyiv and Moscow.

Several sources cited by the newspaper claimed that the U.S. President is unlikely to impose new sanctions on the Kremlin, partly due to potential future business opportunities between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the European Union announced new sanctions targeting Russia’s “shadow fleet”—a group of oil tankers used to ship crude around the world while bypassing Western sanctions.
