Trump accepts luxury plane from Qatar as a gift

Donald Trump has announced he will accept a luxury gift from the Qatari royal family in the form of an aircraft he will be allowed to use temporarily.

In a statement released Sunday, Qatar confirmed that discussions had taken place regarding the “possible transfer” of a jet, which would serve as a temporary replacement for Air Force One, the aircraft typically used by the U.S. President.

Trump confirmed the proposal on his platform, Truth Social, writing: “So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40-year-old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane.”

Earlier on Sunday, ABC News reported—citing multiple sources—that the Trump administration had been hesitant about accepting the offer. The former president has just begun a tour of Middle Eastern countries aimed at securing new partnership agreements.

According to ABC’s sources, Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, and his White House counsel, David Warrington, had both concluded in advance that accepting the gift would be “legally permissible.”
