Trump admits Putin makes a fool of him

Donald Trump admitted that Vladimir Putin may not actually be seeking to end the war in Ukraine, a comment he made following a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican.

The White House described the meeting as “very productive,” while the Ukrainian president said the discussion could “become historic.”

It was the first time the two leaders had spoken since Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington last February — a trip that had been marked by tense exchanges and the Ukrainian leader’s early departure.

“There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days,” Trump wrote later that day on Truth Social.

“It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just stringing me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions?’ Too many people are dying!!!” he added.

Negotiations between Moscow and Washington remain stalled, despite a recent visit to Moscow by special envoy Steve Witkoff late last week.
