Denmark is seriously considering introducing a new law to help its citizens better protect themselves against the risks posed by artificial intelligence.

The proposed legislation aims to expand copyright protections to include an individual’s body, face, and voice, in response to the growing spread of deepfakes.

Under the bill, anyone who shares a deepfake of another person without their consent would be required to pay financial compensation to the victim.

Social media users would also have the right to demand that online platforms take down deepfake content involving them.

The Danish Ministry of Culture stated: "It will soon be impossible to distinguish between real and manipulated material. Since images and videos can quickly become embedded in people’s subconscious, digitally manipulated versions can create serious doubts—or even completely false perceptions—about what is real."
