Denmark betrayed after Trump ordered intelligence agencies to spy Greenland

Denmark has announced it will summon the U.S. ambassador to Copenhagen following media reports alleging that American intelligence agencies were ordered to spy on Greenland.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen did not hide his frustration after The Wall Street Journal reported that Washington had ramped up its espionage efforts on the Arctic island.

Speaking during a visit to Warsaw, Poland, Rasmussen said: “I can’t know if it’s true because it’s in a newspaper. But it doesn’t seem to be strongly rejected by those who are commenting. That worries me.”

According to the WSJ, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sent a directive to several intelligence agencies urging them to increase the “collection” of information.

The CIA, DIA, and NSA reportedly received instructions to monitor Greenland's independence movements as well as local attitudes toward U.S. resource extraction efforts on the island.

This week, former President Donald Trump reiterated that he would not rule out a military intervention to gain control of Arctic territory.
