DNA research has provided irrefutable evidence linking a German couple directly to a murder over 30 years ago.

“We have no doubt that the defendants were involved in the crime”, said the judge of a regional court in Germany.

The German couple killed a 28-year-old woman while committing a burglary on 25 February 1991 in the German city of Dortmund. She was stabbed and strangled. The victim fought back, leaving the murderers' DNA under her nails. This led to a match. Their DNA was also found on the woman's clothes and in her car. A breakthrough in the case came in 2023 when the traces from 1991 matched the DNA of a 63-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man. They were taken into custody in January and April 2024 and have now been sentenced to life imprisonment.
