The United States currently operates 11 aircraft carriers in active service. Aircraft carriers are essential to US foreign and military policy.

US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, claims that Chinese hypersonic missiles can destroy all US aircraft carriers in just 20 minutes in the event of a rapid conflict, and they would be one of the first targets to eliminate logistical support and support for aircraft carriers.

"So far, our platform to assert our power has been the aircraft carriers, which have the ability to strategically project their power worldwide," said Mr Hegseth in a recent interview. Peter Hegseth added that the 15 Chinese hypersonic missiles "can destroy 10 aircraft carriers in the first 20 minutes of a conflict".

The Secretary of Defense also stated that the United States "is losing to China in every war game conducted by the Pentagon".

"China is building an army specifically designed to destroy the United States," he also stated. He also blamed American bureaucracy and the slow pace of arms purchasing compared to China's growing advance in conflicts with the United States.
