The Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, asserted that the country "is not for sale" during the highly anticipated first meeting at the White House with the President of the United States.

Donald Trump, who, although initially resisted the idea of abandoning his sovereignty ideas, remarked, "never say never", and also acknowledged "it takes two to tango".

The meeting is expected to mark a new beginning in bilateral relations following Trump's public remarks regarding his northern neighbour and the recent elections in Canada, from which Carney and his liberal party emerged victorious. To demonstrate his interest in Canada becoming an American state, Trump drew on his real estate experience, and Carney emphasised that, just like in the housing market, there are properties that are not for sale.

"It's not for sale and never will be. Never," declared the Canadian leader.
