It was in December 2024, the city of Dubai announced the launch of a new project: a luxury skyscraper encrusted with diamonds and gold-plated.

At the time, the "special" shape of the bling-bling building prompted a wave of mockery online, with some internet users suggesting the structure greatly resembled...an adult toy.

The building, which is being developed, was nicknamed the "Tower of Pleasure" by local media, and is expected to be the most expensive building ever constructed, according to the media Demotivateur. Each square centimetre of its structure is said to be adorned with gold leaf and diamonds, a design that architects claim is inspired by the "natural undulations of desert dunes".

On X (formerly Twitter), bold comments and comparisons are rife. “When you want to show the world that you're rich and have a great sense of humour”, “I always knew Dubai was overcompensating for something, but this is even better”, could be read on the social platform acquired by Musk.

On Instagram, users even compared the skyscraper to the “ultimate luxury vibrator”.

In response to the criticism, the architects behind the project didn't hesitate to defend the fruit of their hard work. “Our project reflects the wind-blown desert dunes and illustrates the harmony between human innovation and the natural world. It's unfortunate that some have chosen to interpret the design in a less sophisticated manner,” stated one of the main designers.

It's important to know that the construction of the "Tower of Pleasure" is about to begin.
