He was born in Kimberley, Texas in 1987 and has been playing guitar since he was a child.
Like all the other members of Big Thief, he attended the venerable Berklee College of Music in Boston, founded in 1945. He wisely waited until he had his degree in his pocket before seriously embarking on his adventure.
As early as 2013, he recorded two debut EP's with Adrianne Lenker (whom he met at a college concert). Two years later, the Big Thief quartet was born and gave birth to a first album humbly entitled “Masterpiece”. With a sense of humour and a few folk-rock nuggets like the title track, ‘Vegas’ and ‘Humans’.
Five albums later, Big Thief are still going strong, and their ‘Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe’, on the legendary 4AD label, has even made it into the best-seller lists, notably in Belgium, Holland and the UK.
Buck Meek no longer has to beg on Union Street, a New York underground station, to pay the rent, but instead indulges in his own little pleasures (already three albums), which are pretty close to the world of Big Thief. Fellow musician Adrianne Lenker (born on 9 July) does the same thing, filling European theatres accompanied only by her guitar in the wake of her “Bright Future” album.
