Documentary will look at the “son, father, husband, activist, and rock star”

The last time Bono appeared at Cannes, it was when U2 played on the steps of the Palais for the release of “U2: 3D” in 2007. He will be back in town for the premiere of the documentary "Bono: Stories of Surrender” during the Cannes Film Festival.

Directed by Andrew Dominik, the film is based on Bono's memoir "Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story" and his book/theater tour which went under the name of “Stories of Surrender: An Evening of Words, Music, and Some Mischief”.

The film includes footage from Bono’s Beacon Theater shows in New York. It sees him musing about his life as a son, father, husband, activist, and rock star as well as performances of U2’s iconic songs.

The release coincides with an updated paperback edition of Bono's memoir, featuring a new introduction and a film tie-in cover.

Bono, born Paul David Hewson, has been the frontman of U2 for over four decades. The band has sold over 175 million records and won 22 Grammy Awards. His activism has earned him numerous honors worldwide.

The film will be released globally on October 27, 2025, on Apple TV+. On the same day, Apple Vision Pro will release an immersive version of the film in 8K with Spatial Audio, offering a 180-degree video experience.
