On Thursday, Belgian police removed a 25-year-old man from Temse, in the Belgian province of East Flanders, from the road after a dangerous chase involving an e-scooter.
On the N16 between Temse (East Flanders) and Willebroek (Antwerp), the e-scooter rider reached speeds of up to 60 mph, ignored the direction of travel and endangered other road users. He was under the influence of cannabis and already had a lifetime driving ban.
During his flight, he collided twice with police vehicles and, after falling, attempted to escape on foot but was arrested. His e-scooter has been confiscated.
The man is no stranger to the law: he has previously been convicted several times for traffic offences, such as driving during a driving ban, driving an uninsured vehicle and driving under the influence of drugs. The man will soon have to appear before the police court in Mechelen and faces heavy fines and a prison sentence.
