Arsenal are on the verge of signing Viktor Gyökeres after reaching an agreement with the striker over personal terms.
Negotiations between the Gunners and Sporting Lisbon are still ongoing, with the two clubs yet to agree on the transfer fee. Arsenal are reportedly looking to pay slightly less than the Portuguese side’s asking price of £68 million.
Gyökeres, 27, who scored an impressive 54 goals last season, has made it clear that he is eager for a new challenge and has expressed a strong desire to join Arsenal, despite interest from Manchester United.
The Swedish international is said to have accepted a five-year deal with the North London club, who recently completed the signing of Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for a reported £50 million.
Zubimendi will reunite with fellow Spaniard and former teammate Mikel Merino, now also at Arsenal.
Arsenal are aiming to put an end to their trophy drought, having narrowly missed out on the Premier League title in the last three seasons.
