An Iranian lawmaker has called on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to reconsider the country's nuclear doctrine if ongoing negotiations with the United States fail to yield an agreement.

Speaking during a parliamentary session on Monday, Nadergholi Ebrahimi made the statement as U.S. officials began a diplomatic tour across several Middle Eastern countries.

Although a fourth round of talks between Iranian and American diplomats was held in Oman over the weekend—with both sides expressing cautious optimism—no concrete progress has been announced.

Ebrahimi urged the government to reassess its nuclear stance, arguing that prolonged negotiations were only fueling public frustration.

Under current Iranian law, the development and use of nuclear weapons are prohibited. However, some officials have hinted that this stance could change in the face of a serious national threat.

If the negotiations result in lifting sanctions, they should continue,” Ebrahimi said. “Otherwise, we demand the talks be stopped and request the Supreme Leader reconsider Iran's nuclear weapons doctrine.”
