An 85-year-old woman was bitten by a mysterious sea creature on a beach in Majorca, sparking panic among tourists who quickly fled the water.
A chunk of the Italian retiree’s leg was torn off, prompting lifeguards to urgently call swimmers out of the sea.
Rescue teams responded by raising the red flag and announcing that swimming was now prohibited due to a potential shark threat.
The creature responsible for the bite has not yet been identified, despite efforts by lifeguards on jet skis to track it down.
The victim reportedly staggered out of the water after being bitten while swimming at Palma beach late on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the wound caused the skin around the bite to be torn away, but the muscles were not affected.
The woman was treated on site before being transferred to a nearby clinic.
