During a joint press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel on Friday in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ruled out that the UN is sufficient to maintain peace.
According to the Ukrainian president, a UN peacekeeping mission won't be able to provide Ukraine with the security guarantees it needs to prevent Russia from attacking again once the war is over.
"Regarding the United Nations, with all due respect to them, they will not protect us from occupation or from Putin's intent to invade the country again. We do not consider the UN as an alternative to a contingent or security guarantees," said Mr. Zelensky.
The Ukrainian president reaffirmed his support for a military contingent to which Ukraine's European partners would contribute as one of the desirable options to deter Russia from invading his country again.
