French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a new summit of Ukraine's allied countries, following a call from the Ukrainian president to the EU to keep up the pressure on Russia.

Mr. Zelensky, speaking via video conference at a European Union leaders' summit, said that despite Russian President Vladimir Putin's statements about his desire for peace, "nothing has changed".

American President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Mr. Putin and then with Mr. Zelensky this week.

These contacts, however, have had no immediate effect; despite the agreement on a truce, Russia resumed its bombings on Ukrainian energy infrastructures overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
