It's nevertheless very popular on the breakfast plate. Well, beware that this food is far from being the ideal choice to start your day.
Toasted, topped with a layer of jam, butter, cheese...or accompanied by avocados, white bread (widely appreciated) shouldn't be the star of your breakfast. Indeed, the high carbohydrate content of white bread induces, as soon as the morning begins, a spike in blood sugar levels, which is very short-lived. Consequences? The body will quickly lack sugar, by mid-morning or late morning, and you will feel tired. Furthermore, consuming too many fast sugars can promote weight gain and type 2 diabetes, indicates the website L’internaute.
A balanced breakfast
But then, what should you replace white bread with in the morning? If bread is indispensable at your breakfast table, it's recommended to opt for whole grain or wholemeal breads. Rich in fibre, the glycaemic index of such breads is lower, allowing you to feel fuller for longer. And if you swap bread for muesli or rolled oats, you will benefit from even more enduring satiety.
Finally, for breakfast to be a balanced meal, it should include fibre, protein and healthy fats. Yoghurts, fruits, vegetables, cottage cheese, chia seeds, eggs, nuts: these are the ingredients for a king's breakfast!
