China: hotel launches dog rental service

A hotel in China has introduced a unique dog rental service for its guests.

The Country Garden Phoenix Hotel in Wuhan now allows visitors to spend an evening with a Golden Retriever or a Husky for a fee of €60. The dogs, trained and certified by the hotel, are meant to enhance the guest experience.

According to local outlet China Daily, the service, launched in July, has been a hit among Chinese travelers, with more than 300 guests signing up in the first few weeks.

For many visitors, having a dog around helps ease feelings of loneliness while also creating a comforting bond with a pet.

The initiative highlights the growing pet economy in China. In 2024, the number of pets in the country reached 124 million and the upward trend shows no signs of slowing.
