She was 12 years old, it was 1994. As part of a school project—a project about water, to be precise—a little Scottish girl had sent a bottle into the sea, containing a letter…

The bottle had been thrown into the sea at Portknockie (Scotland), and it was on Lisshelløya, a small island near Vega (Norway), 31 years later, that a 27-year-old volunteer found the letter, intact, while cleaning the beach, reports the BBC.

The volunteer who made this incredible find then sent a postcard to the address included in the letter. “Today I found your message in a bottle,” she wrote. As requested, she included her name, the date, the location where she found the message, as well as several details about her hobbies and the region where she lives. “PS: I'm 27 years old and I really enjoy climbing and sailing!” the volunteer explained.

Same address, 31 years later

Unbelievably, the sender, now 42, was able to retrieve this postcard by collecting the mail at the same address as before, according to the media outlet 20 Minutes. “I lived in Buckie, then in another house in Portknockie for a while, but I moved back in with my parents,” she explained.

Since then, the two women have been in contact on social media, and this almost magical story continues to make the rounds.
