Has Kid Noize killed his career?

The summer festival season has started. And with it, the possibility for DJs to make good money. One Belgian DJ thought he’d multiply his earnings by multiplying his appearances. And to do that, he employed two stand-ins. But maybe having them play the same night was a bit ambitious.

Kid Noize is a popular DJ on the Belgian scene. His particularity is that he performs wearing a monkey mask, based on a character he created for a cartoon strip. So in reality, very few people know what he actually looks like.

Three venues the same night

But dance fans were a bit surprised to see him turn up at three venues the same night and play within a half-hour of the previous set when the shows are two hours apart by car!

Very quickly, the obvious question was asked: who was actually performing that night? And the next day, Kid Noize came clean. Yes, he had employed two other people to play his role. In an Instagram post, he announced the new “concept”. “After 15 years playing Kid Noize, I am honored to announce that I have coached the best successor that I could… Kid Noize is now a team. Bigger, stronger, freer. There is no real or fake.”

“Daft  Punk never did that”

People rightly questioned why this information had to be discovered by accident, as if they were hiding something. One way of doing it could have been to organise an event and make the three characters appear one after the other. As one fan pointed out, “Daft Punk never did this and their faces were covered as well.”

Will promoters continue to book him, wondering who exactly will turn up?

The original Kid Noize will play the role of artistic director.

Another Belgian DJ, Olivier Gosseries, summed it up differently. “At the end of the day, people got what they paid for: a guy in a monkey mask playing dance music.”
